Here we have one of the genuine old Scottish melodies. It was composed over three centuries ago and lias been popular ever since. It has always been a great favorite with German composers. Brueh made it the chief theme in his Cantata."Fair Ellen" and Volkiuann used it as a theme in the battle of Bosworth field in his "Richard III Overture," a Scottish song composed in 1568, in an English battle fought in 1485! The tunc was originally in tho pentatonic'(five toned) scale, with fourth and seventh notes of our scale o-mitted. |
